i seriously don’t know how else to explain to ppl that the systemic oppression of people who were assigned female at birth exists and does not in any way negate the oppression of trans women. in the us, politicians are literally trying to make it so if you are raped and become pregnant by your father that you are forced to carry that child to term. the medical field still does not prioritize studies on anyone but white cis men. there are still people who think being assigned female at birth makes you biologically inferior to people who are assigned female at birth (including some trans people and including some people who were assigned female at birth). like!!!!!!!!! holy fuck y'all!!!!!!!!!!

Reddit people are annoyingly touchy about grammar. A typo in a reddit thread will result in an annoying dogpile from smarmy users eager to glean internet points from correcting you. Because of this, seasoned reddit users often reflexively type in a very clean, formal, debate-like format.
It sticks out like a sore thumb in tumblrs far more casual environment, and often reads as strange, overly-formal, sterile, almost corporate. Like a kid wearing a suit to school.

Under the new rules, homes that are not occupied for at least six months of the year are subject to a tax of one per cent of the property’s assessed value. The deadline to rent out empty dwellings was July 1.
Fazli said many of the people he has talked to are thinking of renting or selling their properties. He recently met with a woman who owns three empty properties in Vancouver — and says one of them is now listed for rent, another will be listed shortly and she is thinking of selling the third.

Why were they empty?
they’re meant to be investment properties, bought, left empty, and then sold a year or few later for huge profit as housing values continue to rise. it’s a massive part of the bc housing bubble, and why despite so much new construction it’s still so difficult to find rental housing
the fact that these landlords are panicking because they might have to actually use their housing properties as housing rather than finance capital is deeply funny
It should be more than a 1% tax rate though. I want it to be 100%. Torture them.
